“A Música nas Coleções do Paço dos Duques de Bragança” [Music in the Collections of the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza] is the first book of the Modos de Ver [Ways of seeing] collection, which explores the collection of the Paço dos Duques, in Guimarães. Written by Eduardo Magalhães, the book presents fifteen musical instruments represented in seventeen pieces from the collection, such as tapestries, paintings, and furniture from the Paço, as well as the music contained in a Chantbook.
In the editorial project, Design by OOF sought to balance the photographic reproductions of Paço’s works with the texts, captions, and footnotes, ensuring a rhythmic reading rich in complementary information. The work is organized by categories of musical instruments, allowing readers to learn about music and appreciate the pieces in the collection at the same time.
With an accessible and didactic language, the book includes 116 images, providing a new way to appreciate the Paço dos Duques collection. The collection Modos de Ver is coordinated by Isabel Maria Fernandes, Director of the Museum, who is already preparing the next editions. The next book about the collections of the Paço will be about Flora.
