“Lavrar” [Tilling] is the first issue of Raiz [Root] magazine, created for the Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture project with the same name. Clube Raiz [Roots Club] is an artistic program that aims to strengthen the musical identity of Braga and the Minho region, promoting meetings between local groups and leading national artists.
Design by OOF was invited to design, together with the Raiz team, the project’s four-monthly magazine, aimed at a wide audience, from different age groups and social backgrounds. The challenge includes the production of four collectible editions, which explore relationships between different dimensions of a unique cultural identity.
The magazine cover takes a contemporary approach to aesthetics usually associated with the popular and the picturesque. Each issue – Tilling, Sowing, Watering and Harvesting – will be represented through a photo shoot that puts anachronistic concepts into dialog, in a staged and provocative composition, but at the same time familiar.
