Oficina is a structure that manages several Guimarães’ cultural structures. Annually it publishes Veduta, a magazine with several articles written by Portuguese and foreign authors. Veduta addresses different themes, promotes reflection and the construction of knowledge, revives memories with an identity connection and values the heritage of the territory and the country.
In this edition we decided to explore error and fragmentation. We transformed the magazine into an experimental object, so that it could be built and shaped through chance. For example, the covers have four different versions made randomly from two posters. These posters result from the combination of two graphic elements with one color, and the gradient color was composed directly on the offset printing machine, during production.
Veduta is a collector’s object, due to the introduction of a manual and casual process combined with industrial printing that allowed the creation of 500 exclusive copies, in a limited edition. Veduta XII enabled us to create an autonomous language and discover new creative and technical processes, which provided new graphic solutions through chance and the assumption of error as a wealth generating process.
